Eat Good, Stay Good and Diet Right

by admin

Who doesn’t dream of being slim and svelte? Of being able to fit into any outfit and look like a million bucks? Clothes just seem to drape effortlessly on the kind of body you would die for, right? Wrong. It just means you’re wearing clothes that are wrong for your body type. And that you need to diet right.

Everybody can’t be slim and svelte. In fact, many people just look haggard and gaunt when they’re too slim for the build/structure they were born with. Hence, we should really assess our body types, figure out the ideal weight for our height and age, and work towards maintaining that while keeping good health.

Body shaming has become a big thing today, and we should all aim to understand the negative implications it has on our lives, and learn to ignore it. The beauty and fashion industries are among the prime culprits who are responsible for body shaming – because this is what sells their products.

Don’t let anyone tell you how you should look. Or that you should be ashamed of the way you look. Don’t let anyone drive you into a frenzy of working out and starving yourself to look slim and sexy. And don’t let anyone erode your self-esteem just because you don’t match up to their image of a good-looking person.

You must decide on what makes you look and feel good, and stay healthy. This will involve choosing the right diet and workout plan without stressing yourself out mentally and physically.

The A to Z of diets

When you start a diet, your goal should be to achieve your ideal weight, not according to society, but according to the requirements of your health. Which means you don’t go haring off to starve yourself or adopt a diet plan that promotes some crazy food fads.

Seriously, living on fruit juices for three consecutive days or replacing your meals with diet pills and protein shakes, will not only destroy your health, but will ensure that all the weight piles back on as soon as you stop the crazy diet – because, let’s face it, man can’t live on fruit juice alone! Hence, diet right!

The market today is bursting at the seams (no pun intended!) with all kinds of diets. Many are practical, but most of them are not. You need to do some in-depth research, assess the efficacy of the diets and figure out which one’s may work for you without ruining your health.

*Here’s a list of diets according to everydayhealth.com:

How many of these diets do you think you can adopt and maintain on a daily basis? How many do you think would be appropriate for your health and lifestyle? And is there an easier way for you to lose and maintain a healthy weight? Like dieting right?

At the end of the day it’s all about nutrition and a practical weight loss program.

Dieting the right way

The correct way to diet right is to ensure that you consume the appropriate quantities of nutrition required for weight management or health e.g. if you have high cholesterol or diabetes. This would mean your food intake must include the right combination of proteins, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, etc.

A healthy, balanced diet needs to be planned based on various factors:

  • Religion – Judaism calls for kosher foods; Islam prohibits the consumption of pork; Hinduism forbids the consumption of beef; Jainism promotes strict vegetarianism and forbids root vegetables; and so on.
  • Health – Diabetes discourages sugary beverages, refined carbohydrates, trans fats, sugary breakfast cereals, dried fruits, etc. While high cholesterol prohibits saturated fats, such as red meats and whole fat dairy products, and cocoa butter, coconut oil and palm oil. Ulcers will need you to avoid rich, greasy food. High uric acid levels call for the avoidance of red meats and alcohol.
  • Lifestyle – if you’re always rushed off your feet, you probably fall back on fast foods to save time and effort, such as high fat, high carb items, including burgers, white bread sandwiches, thick sugary shakes, sodas, etc. – none of these are good for your health or weight.

So, do what you need to do to maintain your health and weight by sticking to a diet that provides the perfect balance of nutrition, and try to augment your efforts with a good exercise plan that works for you.

Diet right, look good and stay healthy!
